Ossama Gabrallah brings a different perspective to projects
Tengbom is well-recognized and respected company in Sweden and after moving to Finland Ossama Gabrallah was glad to find out that Tengbom had office in Helsinki as well.
Being an enthusiastic and bright architect and urban economist, Ossama brings a different perspective to our projects. He joined Tengbom in the summer 2018 and has mainly been working at the early stages of projects and creating visualizations. Now he is introducing something very new to the industry
Having a picture of a very expensive-looking car as his laptop’s background image, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Ossama’s dream as a kid was to become a car designer. “Frankly speaking, I wasn’t aiming to become an architect or urban economist at all. I always had a passion for cars and motor racing, and when I started drawing at young age, it was all just about cars”. Lucky for us, in Egypt the closest design school to automotive design was architecture, so he started studying architecture and structural engineering in Alexandria University.
During his time in Sweden, he realized how much economic forces influence design in the Nordic.
In 2013 Ossama graduated after participating in a joint master’s program between Alexandria University and Stuttgart University in Germany majoring urban design from social and sustainable perspective with a focus on built heritage. As he had been working full-time in architectural offices alongside his studies since 2009, he was already a licensed architect at the time of graduation.* After that Ossama has been studying and working in Sweden and Finland. He obtained his second master’s degree from Chalmers University in Sweden studying urban design with the focus on sustainable urban regenerative and transformative design.
During his time in Sweden, he realized how much economic forces influence design in the Nordic. He was keen to understand the context more profoundly, so he enrolled in Aalto University’s master’s program to study real estate and economics, from which he graduated in 2019.
As Ossama has been studying continually, he has gained a very strong theoretical base. He knows how to harness that knowledge and use it as the base of transforming ideas into actual projects and business cases. Recently he developed a design or investment multidisciplinary approach through parametric platforms and interactive real estate valuation models (see more here and here).
His life experiences, like Egyptian revolution in 2011 and moving to the Nordics, have shaped Ossama into an adaptive person. He values his social relationships highly and he keeps up the good spirit at the office. ” Despite the far distance from my family, I have been lucky to make new one here, a supportive wife, true friends and wonderful co-workers.
Ossama’s next goal is to obtain an international license in property evaluation and investment from RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) by end of 2019.
*In addition to having a degree in architecture, in Egypt, like in Germany, a certain amount of work experience is required before gaining an architect license.
Tässä sarjassa tutustumme tengbomilaisiin sekä Suomesta että Ruotsista.
